Well, after having some time in the evening to play with the 1102, I have to

It doesn't put my R-75 to shame, or my VR-5000. My Sat800, DX398, and
National-109 are still much better radios. I do have to agree with whoever
it was that said that for the price it can't be beat. It IS better on SSB
than my DX-402(ATS505) . I got it at the "Shack" for$50 on close-out but
expected more.

Anyway, I guess it's a keeper although I don't see what all the fuss was
about. I guess if money is tight and you don't want a used radio, the Degen
1102 IS an option.

Well, my l-o-n-g awaited DE-1102 f-i-n-a-l-l-y came today. Even though he
has the best price going, waiting for a radio to arrive from Liypn is

about
as much fun as watching paint dry! 12 days. Somehow, it seemed longer.

Maybe I wouldn't have been quite as disappointed had it come sooner.

I
will admit that I only played with it for about 20 minutes, in the middle

of
the day here in R.F. hell (San Jose) . There are plenty of signals
bouncing around these parts, just not anything you want to listen to.
Anyway, whoever it was that said this radio was comparable to a
DX-398/ATS-909 OBVIOUSLY doesn't own one. My 398, off the whip (and 398's
are known for not being very sensitive off the whip), picks up many more
stations than the DE1102 did with the external antenna plugged in!

I don't believe the radio is very user friendly, either. Had to keep
the manual handy. As stated by others, the SSB feature is easy enough to
work and is reasonably stable. I have been accused of bashing many

radios.
(I own many) This one doesn't make for a good first impression, to me
anyway. To be fair, I will test it out later tonight when the noises of
the city die down and the signals come alive...

P.S. The BLUE light is pretty awesome...

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A $75 radio does not outperform a radio costing 10 or 20 times as
much. I thought for sure we could all expect it to perform better than
a Drake R8. After all, you did spend $75 on it.

I know it's hard to believe. I am as shocked and appalled as you are!

Hey, may as well buy a cheap HF receiver. After listening to Art Bell's
show last night about broadband over Power lines. If that takes hold across
the country, you may as well use your Drake R8b, or Degen 1102 as a
paperweight. The link illustrating BPL interference =
http://www.coasttocoastam.com of a mobile test using an HF receiver is
pretty compelling. Check it out.
