I've found in my own studies that folks who brag about being a lot smarter

In many cases they are failed academics who try to inflate their educational
records by claiming to have degree's that they have not earned!

Actually, I can since I was in an experiment recently that required

professor that was in charge of guiding/reviewing his dissertation
before presentation. Without that guy no Ph.D.
