However, all of a sudden, I lost the portion of the broadcast 88-108 mhz
FM band. At a point below 95.7 mhz the display turned to 9989.3 and
would not tune lower. Above that frequency the FM band works fine,

I've had similar problems with a Sony 6800W. Try some DeOxit spray on the
inside on the bandswitch knob. If you aren't that courageous, try repeatedly
switching bands for several minutes and see if that helps.

I would stay away from such words, that sound like l"DeOxIt"
as they may encourage a 'rejoiner' from someone you know.
