Coincidentally, I have just ordered an NRD-545 direct from Tokyo, as I have
to import my own radio into New Zealand. I also carefully considered all kinds of things including other radios etc, given that I can't even see an NRD-545 before buying one! I decided not to go for the frequency converter. It was going to cost about the same as a decent scanner anyway. But I did indeed go for the CGD-197 option, JRC will fit it for me and test the radio before delivery. If the CGD-197 meets its reported spec, the frequency stability would equate to the stability of a Ten-Tec RX340, which costs more than twice the price. (I don't know enough to know if the equation is that simple, but the CGD-197 should bring the stability to 0.5 ppm after a one-hour warm up). Mark. I did not get the CGD-197 TCXO option because what little information I found on its benefits (mostly from Dave Z's page) it seemed to fail to the cost-benefit test. Also, my soldering skills are fairly primitive and the installation might result in disaster. I was curious weather any of you have this option in stalled and if you think it was worth the money. Also, I like to get an opinion if I could probably install this option with success even if my soldering ability is at the novice level. TIA |
