Guess he wanted it more than anything else at the moment.

Not unlike the guy a couple of years ago that paid $2,000 for an
CRF330 in mint condition. Same guy was on a buying spree for about
four months picking up every mint (or so advertised) nice Sony and
Panasonic shortwave radio. He paid over $1,000 for a 6800W orange
version. He got a stove-sized Panasonic RF 9000 for close to $4,000.
A 4800 and 4900 Panasonic went for around $800.00 each! All nice
pleasant radios to be sure. But worth those prices...no way.

I guess if you think it's rare and ya gotta have it price is no limit.
