CJ,

I've been down the same road as you. I bought my mom a Sony ICF-SW35 for
$85, very reliable little portable. It has 50 memories, batteries last a
long time and it is extremely easy to use. She doesn't need to know the
frequency's as she can simply scan the bands and stop on any German language
station she hears. If you get one of those wind up antennas to clip on the
whip it should be more than adequate for her.

The other alternative is satellite TV which has some Deutsche Welle TV and
radio but that is another subject.
