Default General Queries about powerhouse QSLs - VOA, BBC, etc.

Hello, all - maybe some of you have some experience with this.

I know that VOA broadcasts are not intended for US audiences, and as a
result VOA is not likely to lavish much attention on us Yanks.
Likewise, broadcasts from VOA, BBC or anyone else via distant relay
transmissions are not intended directly for our American ears either.
Having said that...

In your experience, will a VOA or a BBC or a Radio Nederland verify a
reception report on one of its foreign relays, like VOA
Botswana/Thailand/Sri Lanka,, RN Madagascar or BBC Thailand/Seychelles?
Will a reception report be more likely responded to by the
transmitter's engineer than by the home base at Bush House, Hilversum
or Washington DC? Is a copy to both locations worthwhile?
Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce Jensen

I've never had a problem QSL'ing direct to Washington or Hilversum (but times
may have changed!). The BBC is a known to be a non-direct verifier in which case
it is best to try the transmitter site direct.

Having said that, it appears that the below named individual does handle some,
if not all, VOA QSL's:

John Vodenik
Delano Transmitting station
11015 Melcher Road
Delano, CA 93215
U.S.A.

That one may work, or try this one:

jvodenik AT del.ibb.gov

IBB QSL address: QSL, Room 3666, Cohen Building, 330 Independence Ave., SW,
Washington, DC 20237
verify AT ibb.gov

VOA verified my reception of their Botswana transmitter with a QSL card.
Deutsche Welle did the same for Kigali, Rwanda..
Ascension Island sent me a letter verifying I'd heard the BBC via their transmitter.

Sanjaya, do you recall if you contacted the station HQs in their
respective nations, or did you contact the transmitter sites directly?
Thanks,
Bruce Jensen

The VOA and Deutsche Welle reception reports were by e-mail.
Check their websites for addy's. I'm pretty sure my DW one was
to the chief engineer. VOA I can't remember, but I got it at the website.
Also, Passport To Worldband Radio gives addresses and web information.

The BBC Ascension report was sent by postal mail to:

Mrs. Nicola Nicholls,
Transmitter Engineer
BBC WS Atlantic Relay Station,
Ascension, South Atlantic Ocean

Not really, thanks to the 'puter, and my poor 'ol brain I usually know where to
look. :-)

Additionally, Passport usually lists an address for many of the relay stations
under that particular station.

Make that nation, rather than station.
