Does any VOX recorder software exist?
By VOX I mean software that will only trip when a human voice
is recieved. I have a hardware unit, but software would be a lot more usefull. Terry |

Hi Terry,
VOX is a key feature of RecAll Pro (and the standard RecAll program) found at www.sagebrush.com The software allows for various configuration options of VOX, too. It's an excellent, easy to use program that's very useful for scanner enthusiasts, DXers, and the like. In fact, RecAll Pro is the basis of my hard drive recording techniques article in February's Monitoring Times magazine. I don't mention the VOX feature in my article, but other capabilities are discussed. I particularly like the running time/date stamp in RecAll Pro that allows it to be set to UTC. Is a true VOX that detects human speech, or a
"normal" level switch that will trigger on any signal above some preset level? Terry |

I downloaded and installed RecAll Pro.
It has what appears to be a standard level sensing VOX switch. Unless I am missing something. One implementation, in hardware, can be seen at: http://www.qsl.net/kc7bum/hf_squelch.html This is a very usefull device, but I am looking for a way to do it in software. ------------------------------- From a thread on the R20000 listeserve: " Message 703 of 714 From: W6AFK w6afk@a... Date: Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:53 am Subject: Voice detection software? Lou, Voice squelches for HF are typically "syllabic squelches". They do not react on noise but on the pattern of the signal. Simple hardware based ones try to detect the presence of voice (low frequency syllabic variations associated with voice). Although not perfect, these types of squelch circuits are fairly common on commercial and military HF equipment. Noise based squelches are practically unusable on HF as they are triggered by any random noise... and as we all know, HF-AM/SSB sure isn't FM ;-) However, I agree that it would be an interesting project if someone created a software-based syllabic squelch application that can be used with any radio... any takers? ;-) Bruno, ------------------------ Terry |

Please read the thread.
I am not after a level sensing VOX, I am after a program that only responds to human voice. ScanRec is a great program. And on a FM comm system, with decent radio squelch performs very nicely. But I am after a Voice Operated as opposed to signal operated squelch. Terry |
