I live on the west coast of the US. I have a DX-398 that is about 6
years old. Recently I changed my "world" time from London to New York,
leaving my home time as Los Angeles. The trouble being that after I
made the change, I got a completely different station list (I get DW,
BBC --D--, RFI, etc.) I would like to know how to set this list back
to its factory defaults.

I have tried:

* setting "world" time back to London
* using the "reset" feature
* Taking out the batteries

I would like to know what else I can do.

Note: when i made the change, I set the radio to display New York time,
I have since set it back to displaying Los Angeles time. Also,
"Factory Default" in this case refers having frequencies listed by
country (e.g. Austria, Canada, France, etc.)

According to the manual, you can not change the preset shortwave stations
stored in your receiver memory. You can however, store programmed memory
into the blank spaces in your memory pages.

If you set your radio to Page 1, position 1, you should see Australia and a
freq of 5.995

To do this, hold down the "page" button until the page number on the display
begins to flash. Then use the up and down buttons to move to the page you
want. Once you have the page you want, hit the enter key and your radio
will be set to this page and freq.

Example: Hit SW, HOLD PAGE until page number flashes, use up arrows to move
to page 7, then hit enter. Now the page numbe ris not flashing, so hit the
#3 on your touchpad and you will be on a freq of 9745 in the 31m band.

Sangean.

(The FAQ author has had his radio lock up on him no less than three
times! But the radio still has all the memory presets it was purchased
with. So it goes.)

The manual is wrong. This has been known for years. You can change or delete
any of the presets. There are two frequency lists preset in the radio. One
is for radios sold in NA and the other for Europe. I don't remember the
sequence of events that cause the switch but it happens. There are two ways
of getting the factory default settings (NA) back. Either manually reprogram
it or send it back to the factory.
