The family is apparently from Pakistan (or at least one of the parents
is). In Muslim cultures, the male is the absolute authority in family
matters, and whatever he says must be accepted without question. So if
Dad says to wrap the house in aluminum foil and sheet metal because the
neighbors are beaming messages into his head, the rest of the family
says "yes, sir" and does it. Then again it's possible that they're ALL
loony, and that Dad and Mom have passed on their mental illness to the
kids, and that they all think that they're being hit with radiation.
