It's a bit like John Geoghan, the Boston paedophile priest, who was
offed in prison by a "decent" murderer.

Not to defend spammers but stealing a database is a crime. Spammers
frequently commit crimes as part of their spamming and Virginia has a
spammer-specific criminal law but in most cases spamming is a civil
tort.
