Hi,
I'm still trying my new Xmas gift - can't pick up anything except
static - can get AM & FM very well, unplugged everything around me --
but nada on SW & LW, can it be a bad radio?
Unplugged the power cord, unplugged the laptop, scanned and scanned
again...I hear static but no stations,,,
Thanks in advance
Icefish

I can't remember your geographical location, but I think it was in the NE US?
You should be able to pick up a good bit of what is listed as "NA" in the "notes"
section here http://www.primetimeshortwave.com/time.html
You should also be able to get the WWV time signal as a test during some part
of the day... 5000, 10000, 15000 kHz
I'm assuming you have checked to make sure the SSB switch isn't on and you are aware
that UTC is 5 hours ahead of US eastern standard time.
Do a test using as many of the North America targets listed at primetimeshortwave
as you can. Try WWV. At night your time use earbuds and the radio's tuning knob to
scan 1 kHz at a time through the 49, 41, 31 and 25 meter bands.
If you don't hear anything assume the radio needs replacing.
