Which RCA do you have? 3-BX-671 Strato-World. Didn't know there was more than one model. Mine is tan leather. Did you check the link? All the instruments, but a few problems otherwise.... The $35 shipping turned me off a bit, but might be worth it if he's far enough away and takes care with packaging (Although as you said--'built like a truck;' which means they ship well--my TO knockoffs all arrived intact with minimal care in shipping.) No, didn't chase the link to eBay. My Stromberg also survived a cross-country UPS trip. ISTR it has flywheel tuning, just to add to the wieght :-) Then there's the Philco version, built like a tank, more rugged metal than the tube TOs. It will anchor at least a small ski boat :-) Best sound of the bunch. Do you have a link to the Philco model? I'm not familiar with that one, although I've researched a bit. I'm aware of the S-C, RCA's (have both 3BX671 and 7BX10, but not the 'alligator' 3BX--one just sold for $595 on ebay!), Hallicrafters (have the TW-1000), and the Silvertones; but no Philcos. No link that I know of re the Philco. It's sorry state, but no way would you know to see it or heft it. Flywheel tuning for sure. I think the book on Zenith TOs show the Philco in its knockoff chapter. AFAIK Philco never made a tube TO clone. FWIW, most of the knockoffs are superior to the Zeniths in many ways. Except the Sears Silvertone, which makes a good 1L6 donor :-) I have most of the Zenith models. So the 7BX10 is the other RCA TO? How is it different from the 3BX? I'm still waiting to get into my Hallicrafters TW-1000. I've got the manual...waiting for caps. It's got the turret. Looks like fun. I've got two of those, slightly different, and one sort of works, but I'll probably have to go to Heaven to find a TW-1000 whose band-indicating drum still works. Tho I may end up in the place where every dial cord breaks and the 1L6 always pops when you turn on the juice :-) --Mike K. Oscar loves trash, but hates Spam! Delete him to reply to me. |
