Any new HF rigs from Kenwood on the horizon?
So does anyone know if Kenwood has any new HF ham radios on the horizon? I've looked hard at the TS-2000 and TS-480, but I could not brign myself to buy them. The A/B comparisons with the TS-2000 to other HF standards is too dismal, and the TS-480 is too ugly. I hope the next radio is more sensitive, more selective, less noisy, and alot better looking that the TS-2000. |

HI from Ken, G4KIR,
It appears ( from rumours ) that "Kenwood" have now ceased producing new HF Transceivers. They still seem to be interested in the VHF, UHF side of our hobby though. It's a shame we may not see anymore HF equipment from this once very popular company. Hope this helps, cheers, Ken, G4KIR. Since we are repeating rumors I have heard from several sources, all of whom may have heard it from the same place, so all I suggest you assume is that it is a popular rumor, not necessarily a truthful one, is that they are being bought by a large consumer electronics company. If that is truely the case, their new masters may have a different idea. As an example, the camera maket dried up a few years ago in the shift from film to digital. Konica merged with Minolta and then went bust, Sony bought the remains and now makes good digital cameras using their technology. Nikon was bought out by a different large consumer electronics company, and they have prospered. I would not count them out. Meanwhile try Ten-Tec :-) Geoff. -- Geoffrey S. I had a TS-570D and when it went out of production I purchased a TS-2000. Hated the rig and sold it and purchased a TS-570S. I guess it is sort of like remarrying the same woman. I am a happy camper with the TS-570S. |

I thought Kenwood already was a large consumer electronics company :-) But a note on their Web site dated last May said they expected their "merger" with JVC to be completed by October 2008. http://www.kenwoodusa.com/NewsArchiv...0-b41cab8ceabf -- Bert Hyman St. Paul, MN |
