Radio hams *operate* their radios .... and sometimes even build them. I am an unrestricted call (any A, B, C, D or E after the number is), I have built and used radios, power supplies, tuners, antennas, computers (using linux os's) and other sundry bits and pieces. I also continue to talk into my radios and type into my computers. Operate is much too general a term to refer to the act of speaking into a microphone. Operate refers to the station as a whole. I used them and continue to use them alongside my store bought gear. The middle bit is "packets" like my old VFH "packet" radio A VFH packet radio? Is that some kind of CB rig? A VHF packet radio... it's a radio I _built_ specifically for packet operation. G-S VK3DMN |
