But, remember, they used to "good ole buddy" the others and "bring 'em
on into line", I expect you to display a LOT MORE intelligence than they
made those other suckers look to have ...

Well, Leonard, after the several decades of declared interest in amateur
radio, the more than ten decades of posts to this newsgroup, over seven
years of time elapsed since your boast of an "Extra right out of the
box", you've obtained an amateur radio license. You waited for the
smoke to clear and for the dreaded five word per minute Morse test to
disappear. Now you're a brand new radio amateur.

As a beginner in ham radio, I hope you'll use these first months to
develop and polish your operating skills. I hope you'll take time to
apply for ARRL membership now that you may join as a full member.

Try to stay away from the wrong crowd--the kind of guy who would write
something like, "Gee Lennie, they all wanna kiss your backside". No one
is going to to anything like that for you any more than it was done for
anyone first licensed decades ago. You'll have to earn the respect of
others.

Keep us apprised of your progress. Let us know if you decide to start
chasing states or countries or turn in a particularly good contest
score. Don't think it can't happen. You need only look at Carl
Stevenson to see what the HF fever can do to an individual.

That's a nice CW call, Lennie.

Ironic, huh...?!?!

I think it was a minor screw-up on the "decades of posts to this
newsgroup", Dave, but considering that there's almost 20,000 posts
under any one of 12 screen names that I've seen, that was an easy
mistake to make...

And yep, Lennie's a brand new Amateur...A novice in the ranks
despite the lack of a current license by that title...but a novice
nonetheless.

Real impressive endeavor, too...Over 60 years gone by since his
first "interest"...They scrapped three code tests and two writtens in
order to get it down to his level. Very impressive for an "engineer"
of his caliber. (Uh oh! I said 'caliber' ! Now they'll jump on me
for allegedly threatening them again! Oh dear me!)

As a beginner in ham radio, I hope you'll use these first months to
develop and polish your operating skills. *I hope you'll take time to

He'll no doubt wait until the ARRL and the IEEE merge and his
"lifetime membership" in IEEE is grandfathered to a League membership.

Try to stay away from the wrong crowd--the kind of guy who would write
something like, "Gee Lennie, they all wanna kiss your backside". *No one
is going to to anything like that for you any more than it was done for

And considering that Lennie has insulted and villanized just about
every Amateur Radio group, organization, program, etc, there is more
than enough reason to believe that Lennie's license will go
unconsummated for some time to come. Who'd WANT to talk to him? Of
course he can go straight to a MARS membership and never radiate a
miliwatt of RF on an allocated Amateur band.

Keep us apprised of your progress. *Let us know if you decide to start
chasing states or countries or turn in a particularly good contest
score. *Don't think it can't happen. *You need only look at Carl

Hmmmmmmmm...See Lennie on the DXCC or WAS rolls anytime
soon..?!?! It took him over 60 years to get licensed...I hope you're
not holding your breath, Dave!

Another benevolent 20WPM Tested EXTRA welcomes a new ham into the
