Crystal Beach,Florida is straight out East of Palatka,Florida.(my half acre of land is seven miles West of Palatka) Last time I was out that way,I visited Crystal Beach for a few minutes. As far as people on that area of the Beach are concerned, (it was about half an hour before getting night time) all I saw was about half a dozen people gathered around a camp fire. They were roasting Marshmallows.Palatka is a small laid back kind of a town, nothing ritzy or fancy.I like it that way too.www.devilfinder.com Palatka Florida cuhulin Went SCUBA diving there at Crystal River when I was sixteen years old. Great diving. Rented a boat every day for a week while I was there. Spent the second week down in the Keys. Camped at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Partied at a nice place called Tiki Isle on Key Largo. It was on it's own little island just off of Key Largo. (The little bridge to Tiki Isle was only about twenty feet long.).) I think it might not be there now. Went to Key West for a few days on that overseas highway. I know that they built a new one since I was down ther last time. My mom and dad had a nice little piece of property with a mobile home on it with a few palm trees in Crystal River, and another little place outside of Orlando. There was a really nice place in Tampa on the west coast, called the Kapok Tree that we used to enjoy going to for a nice dinner now and then. Beautiful place at night with all sorts of fountains lit up. I think that place is gone too. Friends of ours that retired to Florida lived in Bradenton. They're divorced now. Haven't heard from them in a while since they split up. The kids took out U.S. citizenship when they were eligible, and got married to a couple of good guys down there. They had one of those big kidney shaped pools in the back yard. Another good diving spot was the Blue Grotto. I think it was about a forty minute drive from Crystal River. (Might have been more). Cave diving way back in and then down to 110 feet. Pitch black when you shut your lights off. Really great to get away from our Canadian winter for a few weeks in March. I always prefered the gulf side of Florida. The Sarasota area, and Siesta Key Beach were nice as well. I only went up and down the east coast maybe three times. The gulf coast just seems nicer somehow. Maybe a bit slower, easier pace of life at the time. Not so built up. But that might have changed now. I hope it hasn't gotten spoiled over the years. I've always loved Florida. Always a good place to recover from our Canadian winter. Cato |
