The first arab terrorist attacks against western interests were in 1970. Palestinians hijacking jets. Nobody except Israel was hassling them but Israel did and still does get a lot of backing from both USA and UK. The elephant in the room is still there and it's Israel and Palestine. Sort that and much of the problem will vanish. The current wave was sparked by the invasion of Iraq. Quite why that was done I can't work out. If they wanted a villain then the obvious choice was the country where the Sept 11 hijackers originated. Plus at the time the same country was holding britons as prisoners and allegations of torture were being made. We had a real excuse to invade not like the phony one made for Iraq. The place is a hotbed of religious fundamentalism. Invading and stamping it out should have been a prime objective. Perhaps the reason the Saudis were left alone is because the ruling families are pals with the ruling families in the west. |
