I suppose the title of 'first' depends upon how you define 'regularly
scheduled'

IIRC, KDKA's claim to "first" refers to the first COMMERCIAL radio station.

Cuhulin, you realize that the huge majority of people reading this
will not receive or necessarily have an interest in your local news -
right? *I have not even seen a TV station that begins in "W" for
decades...let alone one in Mississippi...

Cuhulin is one of a kind, he likes old b/w TV programs, he does not
care for new shows or movies. At least that is the general impression
I am getting (judging) from his most 'unusual' remarks! Callsign
prefix 'W' used to be reserved strictly east of the Mississipi;
lately it is not always so indeed.

That's right, my bad - the two big Texas "W"s west of the
Mississippi. I used to hear them quite well from Massachusetts 35
years ago. From California - not so much.

Massachusetts was a great place to hear AM BCB DX. I managed to get
almost every state in the lower 48, including California and
Washington, plus a bunch of Canadians across the prairie, on a Radio
Shack portable using just the internal ferrite bar. Everything east of
the Rockies was a cinch. Had I know then how to loop a wire aorund the
radio for added induction, who knows what else I could have grabbed.

Nobody aims their signals thisaway, I guess...

I like old shows too - I'll take a silent movie over anything
post-50's anytime.

The two Texas "W"s - WOAI and WBAP - have been around awhile.
