Cut a thin piece of Duct tape - same width as the knob and wrap it
around several times. The knob feels heavier, better grip and looks
fine if you do a nice job. I wrapped mine about 10 times around if I
remember correctly.

Hi,

Just done this on my radios and used a product called "Bluetak" in the UK.
It's the stuff that you use to stick paper to walls etc.

Some of the guys use lead shot from a couple of gun carts and then glue it
in place. If you use too much shot though it can do damage to the tuning
spindle.

Cheers

Probably the *best* way to do it is to completely change the knob. That
way, you'll still have the old knob handy if you need to put the radio back
into the carrying case.

You can pick up some really snazzy knobs he

Basically anything that you would use to protect the radio before
transporting it (including the original styrofoam inside the shipping box).

Most of the after-market knobs I've seen protrude a good bit farther out
than the originals. If you've got a lot of leverage on a longer knob that
is attached to a plastic (or easily bent metal) shaft, it will cause (at the
best) a wobbly control or (at the worst) a damaged volume or tuning
component.

Use slow set epoxy to encapsulate the lead shot or steel BB's.

Thanks for the referral !

unfortunately, the DX-394 has a short tuning shaft so unless the new
tuning knob has an extended receptacle to extend a bit into the radio
the knob won't stay on. the 394 shaft is about 1/4 inch too short for
my knob or for some of the other knobs I have tried.
I have not been able to come up with a STABLE way to extend the shaft.

Mike
