The fact is that the programming that made the radio "romantic" is also gone. Anything can pick up Rush Limbaugh, ESPN Radio, and the lunatic fringe on SW, but there is very little romance in it, no matter what radio you use. There was a structure to radio programming back then that is gone now, and even an A****er Kent can't receive that any more. DB, This is why, I have always thought that the 50KW Clear Channel Stations should be required as part of their license; to have 'original' "Local Content" Programming for broadcast from 6AM to 12AM/Midnight. This would create a revived diversity in the AM Broadcasting Industry. The lesser powered 10KW and 5KW stations could all run the "Me-Too" National Talk, News and Sports Programming to fill their local markets. Then DXing the Clear Channels would be something to Listen To Daily and Nightly; not simply something to Log and forget. That might be nice I suppose, but the reality is that DX'ers don't count. $$$'s do. If that type of programming were to appeal to the audience, then I'm sure that some Program Director would have already figured that out and made a fortune. The facts are that the stations are serving their respective markets to the best of their ability, whilst making a tidy profit. And, contrary to what Michael W. Bryant might think, that's the name of the game. (Sorry, I could'nt but help toss that in).
