A non-resonant doublet will have impedances all over the place. At some freuencies it cannot be matched at all, at others the losses in the tuner make you wish you hadn't been able to tune it. The trick is keeping those nasty spots out of the ham bands. There are a number of G5RV type antennas that are doublets whose length has been chosen to keep those nasty spots out of the ham bands. Spend a few minutes looking up the right lengths for your doublet and avoid potentially a lot of grief. Random length, of course, is random. you COULD get lucky. Or not .... ... |
