Default BCD396T questions 12/26/2005

My BCD396T contains firmware version 1.07.01. The radio is expected to be
used only to monitor the Michigan APCO-25 system.

I was not able to find the answers to the following in the BCD396T's manual:

1. With the radio off and the charger plugged in, page 34 indicates that
when the batteries are fully charged one will see the message: "Charge
Complete." After many hours of such charging, I still see the charging
message: " Normal Charging."
Is the manual correct and eventually I will see a Charge Complete
message?

2. Uniden's site provides a vague sentence description of the enhancement
between 1.08 and 1.09 versions of the radio's firmware.
What is/are the improvements between 1.07 and 1.08? Have improvements
been noted with the use of 1.08 or 1.09?

Thank you. Regards, Mac

Default BCD396T questions 12/26/2005

Question 1 has been answered. After a very long time, "Charge Complete"
appeared.

Another couple of questions:
3. On the right hand side of the second line down from the top is an
arrow pointing up. I have not found the significance of the arrow in the
manual. What does the arrow signify?

4. The ID Numbers displayed by the radio have equaled the specific users
shown by Radio Reference's site. However, the radio has some ID numbers
replaced with a name that is displayed in place of an ID number. Uniden
placed these substitute names into the radio.
How does one discover the actual ID number when a substitute name
appears?

Thanks, Mac

I don't have the BCD396T, however, Radio Reference has a lot of resources
for the owners of the BCD396T. Even the person who designed it, Paul Opitz
(aka; UPMan) is accessible via email, and responds to this site, supporting
Uniden scanners.

Dear Mr. Crocker:
Thank you for your message.
I went to the Radio Reference site and spent a long time looking for
useful information about a BCD396T. Alas, I was not able to find anything
at all.

I will appreciate a URL that goes to the page on the Radio Reference
site that provides useful information on the BCD396T. I was not able to
find such a page.

Regards, Mac

After about 14 hours, you will get a "charge complete" message. It is
a timer based system, not a current based charger.

Dear Mr. Crocker:
I do have an account.
I did not realize that when you said that the Radio Reference site "has
a lot of resources for the owners of the BCD396T" you meant one should post
questions.

Eventually, I will figure things out or encounter someone who has
experience. So far, the quality of reception is highly variable. I was in
the center of the county today where one might assume that signals are
strong and it made no significant difference. The users of the system must
not be pleased.

The site has a Wiki that includes all Uniden models...

Default BCD396T questions 12/26/2005

Having just purchased a 396 two days ago I was a little surprised at how
unfriendly the Uniden manual is to use. As a long term scanner user despite
not having played with any of the newer trunk capable scanners, I didn't
expect to find it all that hard to pick it up and be able to know how to use
it without to much of a problem.
Well talk about a shock to the system whenI turned it on - only slowly
finding out how to use it properly after a couple of days of on and off
playing with it.
I remember that there is supposed to be an easier to understand manual on
the net somewhere (not uniden written) - can anyone help me out with where I
can find it as well as some hints for the brain dead (like myself at the
moment) to get the best out of the radio?

Matt
