Bouquet to Passport
Today out the blue I received in excellent condition a brand new free
complimentary copy of Passport to Worldband Radio 2007. Seems like their Jane Evans got wind of the fact that my original copy got dropped from the Boeing at 30,000 ft when it passed over Montagu - mwa Afrika's idea of speeding up airmail deliveries. Sadly it was graunched beyond belief and was difficult to read. So a big bouquet to Jane and Passport for this friendly and unexpected customer service, much appreciated here. I cannot understand why the many queries that come into this newsgroup don't buy themselves a copy of Passport, as for twenty bucks it is a bible of useful information for radio hobbyists, especially newness. It's got everything worth looking at from the fifty buck radio's and simple antenna's right up to excellent reviews of the heavyweight $4k serious tabletops. An outstanding buy and good value for what you get, written by highly experienced professionals. -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s RX Icom IC-756 PRO III with MW mods Drake SW8 & ERGO software Sony 7600D, GE SRIII, Redsun RP2100 BW XCR 30, Sangean 803A. All kinds of good information in it about SW radio stations, schedules, mail addresses and contact information, reviews and useful advertisements for equipment. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

I guess I'll breakdown and get a copy again. I haven't bought one in
years, however, I used to get Monitoring Times and they had fairly decent listings for SW schedules among other things. I really do need to get a reference considering all the stations I run across that I can't identify. I'd probably waste the money on ice cream anyway!! Which vendor/outlet is the best to order from? It would be much better if the schedule section were available in an
electronic form on the internet which is updated regularly. As it currently stands, in static print, it becomes outdated within months. "John Plimmer" wrote in message ... WRTVH used to have a similar publication that addressed the "other" half of the year, with a similar graphic format - but they discontinued that about 3 years ago, and - oh well... At least EiBi updates regulary - and it is a more than satisfactory substitute, and free at that. Bruce Jensen |

Bruce Jensen I bought the 2005 edition and saw a ton of Eton advertisements in it,,, I very skeprtical when I see that type of thing...kind of turned me off on their reviews ,how can they be impartial? |

The problem is bigger than that. No one is making shortwave radios anymore.
I am sure Passport is struggling to find advertisors except for Eton and the other Chinese stuff. -- Brian Denley http://home.comcast.net/~b.denley/index.html wrote in message oups.com... bpnjensen wrote: Astro wrote: It would be much better if the schedule section were available in an electronic form on the internet which is updated regularly. Bruce Jensen I must say that I think the schedule format in Passport is superior (easy/fast) than any other I have used. I simply wish it was available online with regular updates that I can print out when needed. |
