That assumption has long ago been proved false by social economists.

The assumption that people are rational and act in their best
interests is demonstrably false.

Read for example:

"Predictably Irrational"http://www.amazon.com/Predictably-Irrational-Hidden-Forces-Decisions/...

Read also:
Sway: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behaviorhttp://www.amazon.com/Sway-Irresistible-Pull-Irrational-Behavior/dp/0...

People can be expected to act irrationally - and with knowledge you
can predict when and how and take advantage of it - producing the
"free lunch".

These new emerging findings are blowing common economic thought out of
the water. People are not rational and do not pursue their best
interests. They can be and are manipulated against their own economic
interests.

After 12 years of Obama this country will be so dumbed down they'll
think that **** is ice cream. Free health care will be no health
care.
All deviant behavior will be the norm by definition.
You wanted change? You got it. Enjoy yourself.

Sounds like a preacher.

Capitalism is a "way of life".

capitalism is a system that can comfortably reside with in any
system. its a system where you can leave your brains, morals, and what
make us humans behind. and its always doomed to failure if its left
onto its own
what really makes capitalism work, is when you use your brains,
morals, and what makes us a whole human being with all of the usual
goodies such as empathy, pity, remorse, ethics, and yes, morals.

What you are saying is that Liberalism and Socialism, when mixed with
Capitalism is a deadly Sin.....

Case in point, poor people who vote Republican.

I don't consider that a free lunch. *The poor pay
heavily for their acts in voting Republican.

Did those poor people vote for Dodd, Frank and Pelosi? I doubt it.
Liberals always blame the poor for all the problems. I blame the rich
Democrats.

Capitalism without regulation is the same as a malignant tumor; an
entity that keeps growing until it kills its host.

capitalism will eat its seed corn, eat its youth, and will do
everything in its power to destroy demand(wages), and it looks like it
was successful again.

And yet it took Obama to get America to eat their young.

Dealership closings a big deal for small towns.

the Business section.

The UAW ruined the Auto factories/businesses.

I HATE Unions, I always have, I always will!

Mississippi is a Right to Work State. It is no wonder so many Auto
factories are moving down South.South is always Best.

It was mostly people from the South many years ago who went up North to
work in the Auto factories.

Liberal-Progressives are running a war against the poor. Look at their
attempts at eugenics in the neighborhoods of the poor. The Progressives
have propagandized their plans to control lives of the poor, beginning
with the family and children. Progressives have convinced the poor that
they are incapable of making decisions for themselves.

Progressives are selling the idea that fathers are the problem and offer
the women and children a way to get rid of and avoid evil fathers. Low
and behold there are more divorces and more unwed moms.

Everyone thank the Progressives.
