Default (OT) Free To Air Satellite TV

I don't know for sure, but I think three foot satellite dishes have been
outlawed here in Jackson,Mississippi.About nine years ago, with my WebTV
box, I could view a taped replay/digitally recorded/whatever, of a news
weather and sports tv program from a tv station in Dublin,Ireland.Of
course it was a sort of a stop action/break action viewing experience,
if you know what I mean? miso, can you actually pick up live Ireland and
Scotland (Wales too) tv with your satellite equipment? in good quality?

About three sumpin months ago, a guy was installing Dish Network
satellite tv equipment at one of the houses next door to doggy's couch.I
asked him if he knows about Free To Air (FTA) satellite tv, and if I buy
the equipment, will he install it for me.He said he knows about FTA and
he can't install FTA for me.(Company policy, I suppose, he could get
fired if he did) He also said most people in America don't know about
FTA.I think he is right.

I reckon as how I will lets my fangers do the walkin in my Jackson phone
book and see what I can find.I think those elderly people at the Hooper
Sound store on Terry Road might know.

Oh, Boo Hoo, Woe is me,,, Woe is me,,, all I wants to do is watch Live
Ireland and Scotland (Wales too) Free To Air Satellite TV.

CONUS, there are no restrictions on dishes 1 meter or less, per FCC
and thus federal law. You may be able to use larger dishes, but
anything over 1 meter is subject to local restrictions. I wouldn't go
bigger than 1.2 meters.

The small dishes used by Dish or Direct won't cut it.

Many of the shows on FTA are available on the net. I haven't seen it
happen in the US, but the DoD has bought time on satellites targeted
to the EU and put UAV video on them.

I have a suspicion you will like the Saturday Night Knife and Gun
Show.

Many Mexican Restaurant's here in Northern California
have these 8 Foot Dishes on their Roofs, or in the back
for catching the TV Sports from Mexico.

Just for the Fun of It : Hang an "IRA" Sign

Lyngsat does not sell anything, they are a directory site. If you want an
FTA rig, you have to find an FTA satellite dealer in the area and get them
to install it.

If you are handy with tools, good at climbing on roofs, and have some math
and computer skills you can do it yourself. It's difficult because there is
a hard and an easy way to align the dish, and the easy way requires some
equipment that costs more than you would be willing to spend on the whole
enterprise.

Look at Lyngsat for the package you want to try and receive and then use
the site I posted in a previous link to see if you can receive the
signals you want. In the end once you determine that you can get what you
want from where you are with a dish you are willing to buy and can get
the permits you need (if any), you need to look and see if it will work.

Then you have to look up in the direction of the satellite (azimuth)
and at the angle it will be at (elevation) to make sure you have a clear
view of the sky. If there is a building or trees, etc in the way, you
will have to move the dish.

I can find satellites pretty easily with a compass and an inclinometer.
I have my old Boy Scout compass, and the inclinometer came with an
Echostar (Houston Tracker) IRD self-install kit. I use Lyngsat and a
Standard receiver to fine aim, once I've gotten in the ballpark with the
crude tools. You can usually go to the satellite operator's page and
that'll tell you where to look on the compass for your area.
