I think I bid on it around the $3000 level, I can't remember! Alas, it's not to be. But it's a nice receiver, and well maintained is surely to increase in value. If I recall correctly, Joe Walsh, WB6ACU, bid on one and it went for a very high price. Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B http://www.iserv.net/~n8kdv/dxpage.htm |

Joe lost but it was close. May Santa bring one to all the SWL's who've been good this past year. ( It's free to wish, ain't it ? ) |

There are about '76' known to exist. The question is what happened to more than '400'? I can't believe all of those are really gone. If had one, I probably wouldn't advertise it either. The pictures of the one on Ebay show that it still has the original paper capacitors, such as the 'Tiny Chiefs' and 'Black Beauties'. Since these caps' are notoriously leaky, should an owner take a chance on running a very valuable radio like the '88' and possibly damaging an irreplacable part such as an I.F. transformer? OTOH, would it lessen the value of the radio if it was recapped to make it safer to run? BTW- The SX-88 cost about $3800 in today's dollars when it sold for $600 in 1955. Joe Walsh (The Eagles) payed $10,000 for his. I guess he wanted it real bad. I wonder what he did with it? -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

He gets into old radios, and CW. I sold him some FT-243 crystals a few years back. He sent me a personalized autographed copy of "Hell Freezes Over" a picture and some personal guitar pics. He's a nice guy, talked to him on the phone once too. Come on Steve, no one's shack or even the desk is that neat.
The photo in the antennas is not the best, unless all you use is a wire. Very nice station. That's pretty much what it looks lik most of the time, but I'll try and take another pic with a few Post-It notes tacked up for effect. The photo in the antennas is not the best, unless all you use is a wire. Yes, there is a 200' and a 70' wire. The photo is shot from the end of the 100' wire, which is now 200'. I'll have to take a new pic of that too. Very nice station. Thanks.
