In the military services you advanced based = on your professional performance, demonstrated leadership record, test scores= , and breadth of experience. WTF is a "benefactor"? 73, de Hans, K0HB (E9 at 17 years TIS, 3 years TIG) A benefactor is the O-6 or preferably an O-7+ who puts on your performance report, "Definitely Promote." Sheesh...All I needed to do to get promoted was to do my job as directed. We either did our jobs and got promoted, or we didn't. No "benefactor" needed. Steve, K4YZ And you didn't. So you never got a "Definitely Promote" on your fitness/performance report? Hi! |

Or I should be more precise, not on a USMC fitness report while I was on Active Duty. They add up the OS, EX, AA, etc, make a score, then add it up. They establish a "cutting score" based upon a curve of all fitness reports for the grade sought and the needs of that OCC FIELD at that time, and you either make the cut or you don't. Steve, K4YZ |

Steve, K4YZ Sounds familiar for the lower grades. For the top grades, there's a board. When the board members read their CINC's remark (sounds more like an order, doesn't it?), "Definitely promote," and there is a billet, the Definitely Promote gets it. |

Having been promoted through all the Navy enlisted grades through E9, I understand how the promotion system works, and there is no magic "Definitely Promote" tag which will get a lesser qualified person promoted over better qualified candidates. dit dit de Hans, K0HB |
