Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans have a dim view of the
sweeping health care bill passed by the House, saying it gives
Washington too much clout and won't do much to reduce their own health
care costs or federal deficits, according to a new poll released Monday.

That means the bill is very good. The way politics work is that "Nobody
won".

Look it up!

This bill may not be perfect, but...

1) The current medical system is definitely broken.

2) Most people are only one pink slip away from needing the health care
this bill provides...and we all know that there has been a blizzard of
pink slips over the last few years.

I didn't lose my job, but when I suffered a severe knee injury almost 3
years ago, the wonderful health care system put me into a near death
spiral that I just managed to pull out of last November. And I have
pretty decent insurance, and make a decent amount of money. Between
using up my 3 seeks of sick pay days, I still missed nearly two months
of work, had some insanely high bills my insurance didn't cover anything
on, like my 15 minute each way, $974 ambulance ride to the doctor and
back to the rehab place, I was seriously messed up. I went through my
savings that were depleted from the original injury that started it all,
and I quickly got into big trouble. I really don't see how this bill
could make it any worse than it is already.

The $25 a day private room I had to have to keep from losing my mind
with roommates who did one or more of the following wasn't considered a
medical necessity:

1. Raved incoherently and called the nurse over and over again, all damn
night.
2. Turned all the lights on at 445AM, put the TV up to full volume, and
then screamed into his cellphone. I got very hostile.
3. Had gas so bad, it made me gag. All the time. He was the only sane
roommate I had, a nice guy who was recovering from a near death hospital
screw up. He was already trying to figure out what kind of new truck he
was going to buy with the settlement. It was going to be big, real big.
His doctors told his wife she should donate his organs, and she almost
did, but woke up with his faculties intact, everything changed.
4. A guy who moaned all night while he was asleep, and when he was
awake, wanted to call his daughter, even after he had just hung up with
her. He couldn't dial a phone to save his life.

I bet they would change their tune real quick if they had to stay with a
couple of those crazy *******s like I did.

You're in for a big surprise. The country can't afford free health
care. Your cost of health care will go up.

Prove it, please. Maybe it will, maybe not. It already jumped 73%
this month; you think it will be worse than that? Explain. Be
specific. Extra points given for avoidance of opinions in place of

And the cost of health care hasn't *already* been going out of control
for the last ten years or more?

How could you have missed that? What other planet were you visiting?

No kidding - and I sure don't have a "Cadillac" plan (Unless that most
recent increase put it over the top...)

How does this plan reduce the cost of health care?

How does this plan reduce the cost of health care?

It probably won't, at least for those who already have insurance. For
those who now pay nothing, either by choice or by necessity, there
will be some variation. Nothing will reduce costs, short of a single-
payer plan or severe regulation plus some changes in the way pharma
and health conglomerates do business.

But, that is not all there is to it, at least IMHO. There's alot more
to health care than cost, and this bill addresses many of those issues
in a positive way (at least for my family). I'd bet a king's ransom
I'm not he only one for whom this is true. If the cost of the plan is
the only thing that matters to you, then I agree, the bill is probably
worthless.

It may -- or may not-- reduce the cost of health care. But it WILL stop
or slow waaay down its upward, out of control spiral.
