First, I FULLY REALIZE this is NOT a moderated news group. But thanks to those of you that pointed it out. Finally, -Telamon- made the claim that he owns it. The purpose of my original post above, was to 'call' -him- on that statement and have him elaborate a bit. Telamon wrote: I bought it from the creators of the news group years ago. Basically the document was a bill of sale or sales agreement, which effected the transfer of ownership. It has turned out to be a very good deal for me except for a few people I have to put up with. Telamon, thanks for the response; however, your brief explanation generated more questions than it answered. First, you say your "bill of sale or sales agreement" is a " *transfer* of ownership". Fair enough. That explains the 'transfer' part. But you did not address how it is actually *owned* in the first place, either by you or others. Are you saying that if I started a news group on some topic, that I would own it and then could actually sell it to someone else at a later date? How would I prove my ownership to potential buyers? Once they bought it, how would they prove to others that they are now the new owners? Is there something like a "Registrar of Deeds" of news groups or some kind of equivalent to the Secretary of State for car titles where one can actually look up news group ownership? Is there some kind of web site where we can view a list of the owners of various newsgroups? Reference(s) please. Thank you. |

Is there some kind of web site where we can view a list of the owners of various newsgroups? Reference(s) please. Essentially I Own a business interest in the news group and yes the news group is public place to post and read through numerous servers. The best analogy I can think of is the sidewalk in front of your house. You own it and are responsible for its condition but the city has an easement for public use. Anyone can walk down the street and use it. The news groups are not registered with a city like real estate because it is virtual property and yes there is an organization of news group owners. These are private business arrangements between people and I am not at liberty to name the members. No need to worry about some kind of conspiracy here as this is just business. The business arrangements are registered with Internet domain name registrars and can be accessed by people of standing and that does not include you as far as I know. It's not quite on the level of the need to know but people do value their privacy. You can understand that I hope because you are an amateur operator and not just anybody. -- Telamon Ventura, California |
