Was this a good price?

How much is the keypad for this radio worth?

Thanks
Lucky

That's about the price I would have expected on Ebay. I've seen 'em go
for less, but I've seen 'em go for more, too.

I know a couple of folks who use highpass filters on their 150's. My
understanding is that, if you just suppress everything below 1700khz,
then you won't need anything like the Lowe preselector. Others may have
some first hand insights to offer here.

Also, as for the keypad, 150 owners might consider getting a remote
control unit for the Lowe instead. I think this will prove more
convenient and probably offer more in the way of functionality. Go to
www.swl-remotes.com and take a look. (I have no connection to
swl-remotes, other than being a satisfied customer.)

Steve

I would willing to pay a little more for one if it was in excellent cond
and the seller was superb. It's easy to get stuck with a bad radio nowadays.

You can run it active with a 9 volt battery too.
But, the 150 has a built in preamp. But that's only for the whip right?
Still, you can clip a longwire to the antenna.

This idea ist not that good for me. I like to feed the preamp with a
sinal from the attic 6th floor (my appartment is on base floor) and not
with computer noise :-) There are some unused chimneys I run some
coax-feedlines through. Unfortunately I'm forbidden to go on top of the
roof :-((

Do you find that you need a pre-selector where you are at due to high signal
levels from various sources or is there another reason why you need one.

I've never found a reason here to use an 'outboard' pre-selector.

For sure I don't need this on the NRD-525 as you dont need one on the
Drake-R8B... :-)
But as I had the things available I gave it a try on the NRD too :-)
On the Sony the external antenna with the FRA/FRT combo works wonders.
You can use them together to passbandtune for much more seletivity than
the Yaesu FRT-7700 preselector alone is giving. For sure you have to
fiddle on the knobs a lot. This may be another thing with other brands.

Well, years ago, when I got back into the shortwave hobby (circa 1982 or so) I did
eventually purchase a FRT-7700 for use with the FRG-7700 which I had at the time.

I have nodified it to feed an external antenna with BNC connector. So it
makes a fine selective HF preamp. I've this thing cascaded with the
FRT-7700.
It works fine with my Sony but it doesn't make anything better on my
NRD-525.

I'm pretty sure it's set up like the 7030. The whip connects to the regular
antenna jack. You can use the preamp with any antenna, but if it's a large one,
you should expect overloading.

Ok that's better. I'm spoiled by the preamps on the R-75.

If you have one (in decent condition) that you'd like to sell for
around four hundred, just post something about it here. I don't think
you'll have ANY trouble making a sale!!
